End of Times! How Close Are We?

On the other hand, dark
energy might dissipate with time, or even become
attractive. Such uncertainties leave open the possibility
that gravity might yet rule the day and lead to a universe
that contracts in on itself in a "Big Crunch".
سُوۡرَةُ الرَّحمٰن
(٢٥) كُلُّ مَنۡ عَلَيۡہَا فَانٍ۬ (٢٦) وَيَبۡقَىٰ وَجۡهُ
رَبِّكَ ذُو ٱلۡجَلَـٰلِ وَٱلۡإِكۡرَامِ (٢٧)
The All Merciful 55:26-27
Everyone that is thereon will pass away; (26) There
remaineth but the Countenance of thy Lord of Might and
Glory. (27)
سورة الرَّحمٰن
جو (مخلوق) زمین پر ہے سب کو فنا ہونا ہے (۲۶) اور تمہارے
پروردگار ہی کی ذات (بابرکات) جو صاحب جلال وعظمت ہے باقی رہے
گی (۲۷)
Some scenarios, such as the Cyclic
Model (A cyclic model is any of several cosmological models
in which the universe follows infinite, self-sustaining
cycles, for example: an eternity of Big Bang-Big
crunches) suggest this could be the case. While
these ideas are not supported by observations, they are not
ruled out.
Measurements of acceleration are crucial to determining the
ultimate fate of the universe in big bang theory.
As Big Bang theory, the creation
of the universe began with a huge explosion.
From this point, the universe has been expanding ever since.
Scientists say that when the mass of the universe has
reached a sufficient level, this expansion will come to an
end because of gravity, causing the universe to collapse in
on itself.

It is also believed that the
contracting universe will end in a fierce heat and
contraction known as the "Big Crunch." This would lead to
the end of all forms of life as we know them. Renata Kallosh
and Andrei Linde, professors of physics from Stanford
University, made the following statements on the subject:
The
Big Crunch theory proposes that the universe, that
began expanding with the Big Bang, will collapse in
on itself with increasing speed. According to the theory,
this collapse of the universe will continue until the
universe has lost all its mass and turned into a single
point of infinite density.
The universe may be doomed
to collapse and disappear. Everything we see now, and at a
much larger distance that we cannot see, will collapse into
a point smaller than a proton. Locally, it will be the same
as if you were inside a black hole... We have found that
some of the best attempts to describe dark energy predict
that it will gradually become negative, which will cause the
universe to become unstable, then collapse... Physicists
have known that dark energy could become negative and the
universe could collapse sometime in the very distant
future... but now we see that we might be, not in the
beginning, but in the middle of the life cycle of our

This is how this scientific hypothesis of the Big Crunch is
indicated in the Quran:
سُوۡرَةُ الاٴنبیَاء
يَوۡمَ
نَطۡوِى ٱلسَّمَآءَ ڪَطَىِّ ٱلسِّجِلِّ لِلۡڪُتُبِۚ كَمَا
بَدَأۡنَآ أَوَّلَ خَلۡقٍ۬ نُّعِيدُهُ ۥۚ وَعۡدًا
عَلَيۡنَآۚ إِنَّا كُنَّا فَـٰعِلِينَ (١٠٤)
The
Prophets 21:104
That Day We will fold up heaven like
folding up the pages of a book. As We originated the first
creation so We will regenerate it. It is a promise binding
on Us. That is what We will do.
سُوۡرَةُ الاٴنبیَاء
جس دن ہم آسمان کو اس طرح لپیٹ لیں گے جیسے خطوں کا طومار لپیٹ
لیتے ہیں۔ جس طرح ہم نے (کائنات کو) پہلے پیدا کیا اسی طرح
دوبارہ پیدا کردیں گے۔ (یہ) وعدہ (جس کا پورا کرنا لازم) ہے۔
ہم (ایسا) ضرور کرنے والے ہیں (۱۰۴)
In another
verse, this state of the heavens is described thus:
سُوۡرَةُ الزُّمَر
وَمَا قَدَرُواْ ٱللَّهَ حَقَّ قَدۡرِهِۦ
وَٱلۡأَرۡضُ جَمِيعً۬ا قَبۡضَتُهُ ۥ يَوۡمَ ٱلۡقِيَـٰمَةِ
وَٱلسَّمَـٰوَٲتُ مَطۡوِيَّـٰتُۢ بِيَمِينِهِۦۚ سُبۡحَـٰنَهُ
ۥ وَتَعَـٰلَىٰ عَمَّا يُشۡرِكُونَ (٦٧)
The Companies
39:67
They do not measure Allah with His true measure.
The whole earth will be a mere handful for Him on the Day of
Rising the heavens folded up in His right hand. Glory be to
Him! He is exalted above the partners they ascribe!
سُوۡرَةُ الزُّمَر
اور انہوں نے خدا کی قدر شناسی جیسی کرنی
چاہیئے تھی نہیں کی۔ اور قیامت کے دن تمام زمین اس کی مٹھی میں
ہوگی اور آسمان اس کے داہنے ہاتھ میں لپٹے ہوں گے۔ (اور) وہ ان
لوگوں کے شرک سے پاک اور عالی شان ہے (۶۷)
According
to the Big Crunch theory, the universe will begin to
collapse slowly and will then increasingly pick up speed. At
the end of the process the universe will have infinite
density and be infinitely hot and small. This scientific
theory runs parallel to the Quranic explanation of this
particular scientific concept. (Allah knows best)
سُوۡرَةُ الاٴنعَام
بٱلۡحَمۡدُ لِلَّهِ ٱلَّذِى خَلَقَ
ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٲتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضَ وَجَعَلَ ٱلظُّلُمَـٰتِ
وَٱلنُّورَۖ ثُمَّ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ بِرَبِّہِمۡ
يَعۡدِلُونَ (١) هُوَ ٱلَّذِى خَلَقَكُم مِّن طِينٍ۬ ثُمَّ
قَضَىٰٓ أَجَلاً۬ۖ وَأَجَلٌ۬ مُّسَمًّى عِندَهُ ۥۖ ثُمَّ
أَنتُمۡ تَمۡتَرُونَ (٢) وَهُوَ ٱللَّهُ فِى ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٲتِ
وَفِى ٱلۡأَرۡضِۖ يَعۡلَمُ سِرَّكُمۡ وَجَهۡرَكُمۡ وَيَعۡلَمُ
مَا تَكۡسِبُونَ (٣)
وَهُوَ ٱلَّذِى خَلَقَ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٲتِ
وَٱلۡأَرۡضَ بِٱلۡحَقِّۖ وَيَوۡمَ يَقُولُ ڪُن فَيَڪُونُۚ
قَوۡلُهُ ٱلۡحَقُّۚ وَلَهُ ٱلۡمُلۡكُ يَوۡمَ يُنفَخُ فِى
ٱلصُّورِۚ عَـٰلِمُ ٱلۡغَيۡبِ وَٱلشَّهَـٰدَةِۚ وَهُوَ
ٱلۡحَڪِيمُ ٱلۡخَبِيرُ (٧٣)
The Cattle 6: 1-3, 73
Praise be to Allah, Who hath created the heavens and the
earth, and hath appointed darkness and light. Yet those who
disbelieve ascribe rivals unto their Lord. (1) He it is Who
hath created you from clay, and hath decreed a term for you.
A term is fixed with Him. Yet still ye doubt! (2) He is
Allah in the heavens and in the earth. He knoweth both your
secret and your utterance, and He knoweth what ye earn. (3)
He it is Who created the heavens and the earth in truth. In
the day when He saith: Be! it is. His Word is the Truth, and
His will be the Sovereignty on the day when the trumpet is
blown. Knower of the Invisible and the Visible, He is the
Wise, the Aware. (73)
سورة الاٴنعَام
ہر طرح کی تعریف
خدا ہی کو سزاوار ہے جس نے آسمانوں اور زمین کو پیدا کیا اور
اندھیرا اور روشنی بنائی پھر بھی کافر (اور چیزوں کو) خدا کے
برابر ٹھیراتے ہیں (۱) وہی تو ہے جس نے تم کو مٹی سے پیدا
کیا پھر (مرنے کا) ایک وقت مقرر کر دیا اور ایک مدت اس کے ہاں
اور مقرر ہے پھر بھی تم (اے کافرو خدا کے بارے میں) شک کرتے ہو
(۲) اور آسمانوں اور زمین میں وہی (ایک) خدا ہے تمہاری
پوشیدہ اور ظاہر سب باتیں جانتا ہے اور تم جو عمل کرتے ہو سب
سے واقف ہے (۳)
اور وہی تو ہے جس نے آسمانوں اور زمین کو
تدبیر سے پیدا کیا ہے۔ اور جس دن وہ فرمائے گا کہ ہو جا تو
(حشر برپا) ہوجائے گا ۔ اس کا ارشاد برحق ہے۔ اور جس دن صور
پھونکا جائے گا (اس دن) اسی کی بادشاہت ہوگی۔ وہی پوشیدہ اور
ظاہر (سب) کا جاننے والا ہے اور وہی دانا اور خبردار ہے (۷۳)
سُوۡرَةُ القِیَامَة
لَآ أُقۡسِمُ بِيَوۡمِ
ٱلۡقِيَـٰمَةِ (١) وَلَآ أُقۡسِمُ بِٱلنَّفۡسِ ٱللَّوَّامَةِ
(٢) أَيَحۡسَبُ ٱلۡإِنسَـٰنُ أَلَّن نَّجۡمَعَ عِظَامَهُ ۥ (٣)
بَلَىٰ قَـٰدِرِينَ عَلَىٰٓ أَن نُّسَوِّىَ بَنَانَهُ ۥ (٤)
بَلۡ يُرِيدُ ٱلۡإِنسَـٰنُ لِيَفۡجُرَ أَمَامَهُ ۥ (٥)
يَسۡـَٔلُ أَيَّانَ يَوۡمُ ٱلۡقِيَـٰمَةِ (٦) فَإِذَا بَرِقَ
ٱلۡبَصَرُ (٧) وَخَسَفَ ٱلۡقَمَرُ (٨) وَجُمِعَ ٱلشَّمۡسُ
وَٱلۡقَمَرُ (٩) يَقُولُ ٱلۡإِنسَـٰنُ يَوۡمَٮِٕذٍ أَيۡنَ
ٱلۡمَفَرُّ (١٠)
Al-Qiyama 75: 1-10
Nay, I swear by
the Day of Resurrection; (1) Nay, I swear by the accusing
soul (that this Scripture is true). (2) Thinketh man that We
shall not assemble his bones? (3) Yea, verily Yea. We are
Able to restore his very fingers! (4) But man would fain
deny what is before him. (5) He asketh: When will be this
Day of Resurrection? (6) But when sight is confounded (7)
And the moon is eclipsed (8) And sun and moon are united,
(9) On that day man will cry: Whither to flee! (10)
سورة
القِیَامَة
پوچھتا ہے کہ قیامت کا دن کب ہوگا؟ (۶) جب
آنکھیں چندھیا جائیں (۷) اور چاند گہنا جائے (۸) اور سورج
اور چاند جمع کردیئے جائیں (۹) اس دن انسان کہے گا کہ (اب)
کہاں بھاگ جاؤں؟ (۱۰)
سُوۡرَةُ الدّخان
فَٱرۡتَقِبۡ يَوۡمَ تَأۡتِى ٱلسَّمَآءُ بِدُخَانٍ۬ مُّبِينٍ۬
(١٠) يَغۡشَى ٱلنَّاسَۖ هَـٰذَا عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌ۬ (١١)
The
Smoke 44: 10-11
But watch thou (O Muhammad) for the day
when the sky will produce visible smoke (10) That will
envelop the people. This will be a painful torment. (11)
سورة الدّخان
تو اس دن کا انتظار کرو کہ آسمان سے صریح
دھواں نکلے گا (۱۰) جو لوگوں پر چھا جائے گا۔ یہ درد دینے
والا عذاب ہے (۱۱)
سُوۡرَةُ الطُّور
وَٱلطُّورِ
(١) وَكِتَـٰبٍ۬ مَّسۡطُورٍ۬ (٢) فِى رَقٍّ۬ مَّنشُورٍ۬ (٣)
وَٱلۡبَيۡتِ ٱلۡمَعۡمُورِ (٤) وَٱلسَّقۡفِ ٱلۡمَرۡفُوعِ (٥)
وَٱلۡبَحۡرِ ٱلۡمَسۡجُورِ (٦) إِنَّ عَذَابَ رَبِّكَ
لَوَٲقِعٌ۬ (٧) مَّا لَهُ ۥ مِن دَافِعٍ۬ (٨) يَوۡمَ تَمُورُ
ٱلسَّمَآءُ مَوۡرً۬ا (٩) وَتَسِيرُ ٱلۡجِبَالُ سَيۡرً۬ا (١٠)
فَوَيۡلٌ۬ يَوۡمَٮِٕذٍ۬ لِّلۡمُكَذِّبِينَ (١١)
The Mount
52:1-11
By the Mount, (1) And a Scripture inscribed (2)
On fine parchment unrolled, (3) And the House frequented,
(4) And the roof exalted, (5) And the sea kept filled, (6)
Lo! the doom of thy Lord will surely come to pass; (7) There
is none that can ward it off. (8) On the day when the heaven
will heave with (awful) heaving, (9) And the mountains move
away with (awful) movement, (10) Then woe that day unto the
deniers (11)
سورة الطُّور
(کوہ) طور کی قسم (۱) اور
کتاب کی جو لکھی ہوئی ہے (۲) کشادہ اوراق میں (۳) اور آباد
گھر کی (۴) اور اونچی چھت کی (۵) اور ابلتے ہوئے دریا کی
(۶) کہ تمہارے پروردگار کا عذاب واقع ہو کر رہے گا (۷)
(اور) اس کو کوئی روک نہیں سکے گا (۸) جس دن آسمان لرزنے لگا
کپکپا کر (۹) اور پہاڑ اُڑنے لگے اون ہو کر (۱۰) اس دن
جھٹلانے والوں کے لئے خرابی ہے (۱۱)
سُوۡرَةُ
القَارعَة
ٱلۡقَارِعَةُ (١) مَا ٱلۡقَارِعَةُ (٢) وَمَآ
أَدۡرَٮٰكَ مَا ٱلۡقَارِعَةُ (٣) يَوۡمَ يَكُونُ ٱلنَّاسُ
ڪَٱلۡفَرَاشِ ٱلۡمَبۡثُوثِ (٤) وَتَكُونُ ٱلۡجِبَالُ
ڪَٱلۡعِهۡنِ ٱلۡمَنفُوشِ (٥)
The Clatterer 101-1-5
The
Calamity! (1) What is the Calamity? (2) Ah, what will convey
unto thee what the Calamity is! (3) A day wherein mankind
will be as thickly-scattered moths (4) And the mountains
will become as carded wool. (5)
سُوۡرَةُ القَارعَة
کھڑ
کھڑانے والی (۱) کھڑ کھڑانے والی کیا ہے؟ (۲) اور تم کیا
جانوں کھڑ کھڑانے والی کیا ہے؟ (۳) (وہ قیامت ہے) جس دن لوگ
ایسے ہوں گے جیسے بکھرے ہوئے پتنگے (۴) اور پہاڑ ایسے ہو
جائیں گے جیسے دھنکی ہوئی رنگ برنگ کی اون (۵)
سُوۡرَةُ قٓ
يَوۡمَ تَشَقَّقُ ٱلۡأَرۡضُ عَنۡہُمۡ
سِرَاعً۬اۚ ذَٲلِكَ حَشۡرٌ عَلَيۡنَا يَسِيرٌ۬ (٤٤)
Qaf
50:44
On the day when the earth splitteth asunder from
them, hastening forth (they come). That is a gathering easy
for Us (to make). (44)
سُوۡرَةُ قٓ
اس دن زمین ان پر سے
پھٹ جائے گی اور وہ جھٹ پٹ نکل کھڑے ہوں گے۔ یہ جمع کرنا ہمیں
آسان ہے (۴۴)
سُوۡرَةُ القَمَر
خُشَّعًا
أَبۡصَـٰرُهُمۡ يَخۡرُجُونَ مِنَ ٱلۡأَجۡدَاثِ كَأَنَّہُمۡ
جَرَادٌ۬ مُّنتَشِرٌ۬ (٧)
The Moon 54:7
They will
emerge from their graves with downcast eyes, like swarming
locusts.
سُوۡرَةُ القَمَر
تو آنکھیں نیچی کئے ہوئے
قبروں سے نکل پڑیں گے گویا بکھری ہوئی ٹڈیاں (۷)
This
verse describes all people's situation in the Hereafter as
one resembling swarming locusts. There is great wisdom in
this simile.
A great deal of information was obtained
about locusts in the twentieth century by conducting
wide-ranging studies using micro-cameras. Locust swarms
contain huge numbers of individual locusts that behave as a
single body. Coming together in swarms that are kilometers
long and wide, they look just like a dark cloud. It has been
established, for instance, that a single swarm of desert
locusts can cover 1,200 square kilometers (460 square miles)
and contain between 40 and 80 million locusts per square
kilometers.
In addition, they deposit their eggs in sandy soils like
seeds and, after the larvae have remained underground for a
long period of time, they all emerge together. After digging
a 10-15 cm-long tunnel in the ground, a female locust lays
95-158 eggs at once. Females can lay eggs at least three
times in their lifetime. When the larvae have matured after
10-65 days, depending on the air temperature, they emerge in
a large group. Up to 1,000 egg pods have been found in one
square meter. Locust swarms are large enough to cover
several hundred square kilometers, with the number of adult
locusts per square kilometer varying from between 40 to 80
million. Their long underground existence and sudden
emergence in vast numbers all at the same time may resemble
the resurrection of human beings on the Day of Judgment.

Today, locusts are being
studied by special units, which employ remote control
imaging systems. Even NASA satellite data are used to
identify areas in Africa where desert locust colonies have
developed. Thanks to satellite data, it is possible to carry
out wide-ranging research on land and in space over an 18
million square kilometer area.
As we have
seen, the fact that the Quran made such a comparison at a
time when these technologies did not exist is one of the
proofs that it is the revelation of the Omniscient Allah.
