Ultra Sound

Ultrasonography

Ultrasonography is the use of sound waves to look at structures inside the body. Sound passes through different structures at different rates giving each structure unique characteristics. With an ultrasound machine we can identify cancers growing within the body, watch the heart beating and measure its function. We can do pregnancy diagnosis at an early stage than otherwise possible. The ultrasound can be used to guide a biopsy needle into the required site within an organ to allow us to sample tissues for diagnosis without having anaesthetise and do surgery on an animal. Ultrasound complements x-rays in diagnostic procedures. It is one of the best ways to non-invasively examine the bladder and the heart.
